The year 2020 was not just about sweatpants. In the Unicorn I just baked you some shut the fucupcakes shirt and I love this past 12 months, classic wardrobe staples—knitwear, jeans, and shirting, to name a few—were never more essential. Quality basics that defy seasonal trends and feel relevant always (even during a pandemic) proved their worth. We wore them all year long and even celebrated them in our Vogue essentials guide. But what makes an item a wardrobe staple? And is it time we amend the list? Some of-the-moment items have transcended trends and are making a strong case to be considered essential. Six items that fit these criteria include puffer jackets, big shoulders, tie-dye, padded headbands, bucket hats, and sweater vests.
Unicorn I just baked you some shut the fucupcakes shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
When we first laid eyes on the Unicorn I just baked you some shut the fucupcakes shirt and I love this puffer jacket, puff-sleeve tops and dresses, and tie-dye printed pieces, each seemed like the season’s newest must-have, and similarly with the padded crown headbands, we saw come down the runways at Prada back in 2018. We’ve since seen these styles continually return season after season, proving not only their relevance but their staying power. Those tie-dye shirts from summer 2019 are now a go-to in our warm-weather wardrobes three years later, while a puff-sleeve blouse has become just as necessary as an oxford shirt. Once It items, sweater vests and bucket hats have become much more than fleeting trends. We find ourselves reaching for these pieces just as we would a trusty pair of denim or a white T-shirt— they pair well with pretty much anything.
